Rabinovich Lab Team
We are an interdisciplinary team dedicated to glycoimmunology. Our mission is to decipher how lectin-glycan interactions regulate immune responses, with a focus on the discovery of glyco-checkpoints.
We work with a strong translational vision to transform scientific knowledge into novel therapeutic strategies against cancer, autoimmune diseases, and chronic inflammation, guided by a deep sense of social responsibility and the ultimate goal of improving patients' quality of life.
PhD in Biochemistry
Gabriel Rabinovich
Dr. Gabriel A. Rabinovich is a biochemist with a PhD in Immunology and directs the Glycomedicine Laboratory at the Institute of Biology and Experimental Medicine (IBYME). He is a Senior Researcher at CONICET and Full Professor of Immunology at the University of Buenos Aires. His group has been a pioneer in the study of galectins and galectin-glycan interactions as key modulators of the immune response in cancer and autoimmune diseases, identifying Galectin-1 as a central factor in tumor immune evasion and a promising therapeutic target.
Over more than three decades, his work has decisively contributed to unraveling fundamental mechanisms by which tumors evade the immune response and remodel their microenvironment. He has been a pioneer in studying the role of galectin-1 as a key regulator of immunity, angiogenesis, and tumor progression, as well as in inflammatory and autoimmune pathologies. His research has opened new therapeutic opportunities, driving a translational approach connecting basic science with the development of innovative immunotherapeutic strategies.
Gabriel Rabinovich has published more than 300 scientific articles in high-impact journals, including Cell, Nature, and Nature Immunology, and has delivered more than 400 lectures at international scientific forums. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the TWAS Prize in Medical Sciences, the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, the Mizutani Foundation for Glycoscience Award, and the Cancer Research Institute Award.
