Skin cancer
Skin cancer, which can be classified into carcinomas and melanomas, is one of the most common types of cancer in the population. Carcinomas are more frequent but have high cure rates, while melanoma is less common but its greater aggressiveness poses a significant health risk to patients. The main risk factor in the malignant transformation of skin cells that leads to cancer is UV radiation. Although immunotherapy has currently revolutionized the treatment of skin cancer, a percentage of patients still do not achieve complete responses. In our laboratory, we study the function of galectins and glycans in resistance to different skin cancer treatments in order to propose novel therapies that improve patient survival.
